FAQs

What’s the difference between microblading and powder brows?

Microblading uses a manual blade to draw hair strokes onto the skin to give the illusion of more natural hair. The powder brow technique uses a digital machine to implant pigment to give a more powdered look. See the ‘services’ page for more information.

Does it hurt?

Most clients report a mild scratching sensation with microblading and powder brows but a topical anaesthetic is used during the treatment, so this significantly reduces or eliminates any discomfort.

How long does it take?

Microblading and powder brows take approximately 2.5 to 3 hours. A significant amount of time is used to map out the perfect shape. I don’t begin any treatment until we are both 100% happy with the shape. I spend as long as it takes to draw the perfect shape for your face as every client’s facial anatomy is unique and of course, bearing in mind the client’s personal preference.

how long does it last?

The results last an average 1-5 years if no touch-up is performed. It is important to know that the pigment can stay in the skin indefinitely meaning there will always be a trace of where your brows have been tattooed.

Over time your brows will fade out and your shape will be less defined. We recommend having touch-ups every 1-2 years to keep your brows looking fresh. Depending on the client’s skin, you may find that some clients come sooner or later. The durability of colour depends on many factors. Following the pre-care and aftercare is extremely important for the best results but there are also factors out of our control. The sun, skincare products and lifestyle choices all contribute to the success of the treatment.

Do I need a patch test?

Yes. A patch test is required for all clients, even if you have had cosmetic tattooing before. I normally do this at the consultation but I can also post this to you free of charge. If you do not wish to have a patch test, you will need to sign a waiver agreeing to this.

is it suitable for everyone?

While microblading and powder brows are fantastic options for many people looking to enhance their brows, they may not be suitable for everyone. Ideal candidates for microblading are generally those with normal to dry skin types, as excessively oily skin can affect the longevity and appearance of the results. Powder brows are more universal and suitable for most skin types. Additionally, individuals with certain medical conditions, such as diabetes, autoimmune diseases, or those on blood-thinning medications, may need to consult with their doctor before undergoing the procedure. Pregnant or nursing women are also advised to wait until after this period. After a thorough consultation, I can determine what is the right choice for you, ensuring both safety and optimal results.

Can I have it done if I have had my brows done before?

Yes, but a consultation is required to assess the previous work and determine the best approach for your new brows. In some cases, removal of the old tattoo may be necessary.

What’s the healing process like?

The healing process for both microblading and powder brows typically takes about 4 to 6 weeks, though this can vary slightly depending on individual skin types and aftercare practices.

what’s the aftercare?

Following the aftercare instructions is crucial for a smooth healing process and optimal results. This typically includes keeping the brows clean and dry, avoiding makeup on the brows, and applying a healing balm as directed. Additionally, avoiding sun exposure, swimming, and excessive sweating during the healing period will help ensure the best possible outcome Full aftercare instructions will be provided after your treatment.

Are there any risks or side effects?

While cosmetic tattooing is generally considered safe, it can involve risks, so you must ensure you are well-rested and have eaten enough before the treatment. Please let me know if you take medication, or have skin problems, allergies, epilepsy and hypersensitivity reactions. Pre-care advice will be provided before the treatment and this must be adhered to. For example, alcohol and tea/coffee can thin the blood so it’s advised not to be taken before the treatment to decrease the chance of excess bleeding as this can lead to poor healed results.
